  • The source of the spill must be a vessel, generally a tanker or barge, on which a petroleum product was a cargo. The spill may be cargo or fuel for the petroleum carrier.
  • The spill must be at least 1,000 barrels in size (42,000 gallons, 136 metric tons).
  • The spill must be accidental, and acts of war have not been included.
  • There are currently 742 Tanker Spills in this database.
