This database consists of a survey of commercially available person-portable analytical instruments. According to information from manufacturers and distributors, the instruments listed are person-portable, field worthy and provide rapid quantitative results for a number of chemicals from Environment Canada 's spill priority list. The database lists features of the instruments that are relevant to spill responders. These include address of the manufacturer and distributor, instrument model, physical principle of detection, compounds detected, media of detection, presence of a pump, audible and visual alarms, radio frequency interference (RFI) protection, electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection, water resistance, datalogging capabilities, display characteristics, operating conditions, special features, physical dimensions, weight and price.
